![]() Per EDHrec, Chatterfang has data for 684 decks, while Ragavan is clocking in at an abysmal 145 decks as the commander. Fair, let's compare him to another popular commander that premiered from the same set: Chatterfang. You might say that I'm not counting his play rate as a commander, or the fact that he's a mythic. Compare this to a few other popular cards from the set for commander: Esper sentinel (4854 decks) and Urza's Saga (3335 decks) and the monkey's play rate doesn't appear to be particularly high- and yet, both cards dropped heavily post-release. Alternatively, it might be time to roll back and look at the OG pirate enablers like admiral beckett brass, if they haven't already spiked bc of commander legends.ĭid it? If we look at Ragavan's stats on EDHrec at the time of writing, the card is played in 2281 decks, mostly in treasure or pirate themes. That being said, if I were to consider synergies with das monke, I'd look for treasure and goblin synergies mostly, or perhaps extra combat cards since that's one way to abuse his attack trigger, which is the main attraction of running this card. I personally would be hard pressed to find a card that has spiked due to the monkey at all- and I worry that if you buy into hype that you have convinced yourself against the odds EXISTS, you'll come out worse for it. If you look at price history charts you'll notice that it spiked before the monkey's reveal, shortly after the release of strixhaven- much more due to the printing of the ] commander deck (the synergies with osgir should be obvious) than the monkey. I unfortunately disagree with your assessment that goblin welder has spiked due to the monkey. That's fair, I didn't mean to be dismissive- I simply wanted to warn you away from spending money where it won't be profitable. Thoughts on this line of thinking and on these spec targets? Also, if you've put any thought into the monkey, what are some of your favorite targets focusing on EDH?ĮDIT: I'm in no way saying the monkey is worthy of its $50 pricetag, just mentioned that to show the hype and popularity. Also, since she's not played a ton right now her cost is very low even for maxed out rarity, about $1 or less Ragavan in the 99 - ] while she's not a super highly played general she is pretty perfect with respect to Ragavan. Single printing from an older set and foils under $1 Ragavan as your General - ] is my target for this instance, it's a 2 drop Enchantment that will grant him haste and make him unblockable for one red mana. Since he can be a General as well as just part of a deck I've zeroed in on one card for either instance: I'm curious if anyone has identified any cards that may be in line for a price bump due to him? I've focused on solely EDH for him since predicting him into Modern is pretty murky right now. With ] being a HUGE fan favorite (already pre-ordering for $50+) and having a pretty insane effect, he's been the topic of many discussions across Modern and EDH reddit.
